6 Things to Check and Fix Before Spring

  1. Wash your car. Road salt and the several winter elements can cause a lot of damage if left on your vehicle after winter. Make sure to thoroughly clean the exterior and undercarriage of your vehicle to avoid rust and build-up. If you want to be really prepared, clean the interior as well. Your carpets might be filled with salt, water, snow, and mud.
  2. Check your tires. Winter can be brutal on your tires. This is why you should get them aligned and rotated to make sure they can live the longest life. You should also check the tire tread to see if you need to replace any tires. Although snow is going away, you’ll still need grip for rainy days.
  3. Change your windshield wipers. Our cars take a beating during winter and the windshield wipers are probably one part you don’t think to change. It is a good idea to get new windshield wiper blades every season so that you can have improved visibility and reduce that chance of an accident.
  4. Check your battery. Your battery has to work harder in winter due to the colder temperatures. This can take a toll on your battery life and cause it to drain faster. Check the date of installation on your battery or bring your car in to the Stop 23 service center to have a technician inspect your battery. If it is older than four years, then you should get a new battery.
  5. Check and fill all fluids. Every area that requires fuel burns off a lot during winter to ensure that you can see clearly and that the vehicle runs smoothly. Check the windshield wiper fluid, engine oil, and brake fluid. Top off these fluids if they are low or replace if they are low and filled with debris.
  6. Check parts under the hood. There are many parts under the hood that need to checked to ensure that your vehicle will run smoothly. Make sure to check the belts, hoses, and air filters. If any of these parts are damaged or dirty, make sure you get them fixed or cleaned as soon as possible.
