Should I Get Winter Wiper Blades For My Car?

We talk a lot about how hard winter can be on your car. It affects all of the little parts of machinery that keep our cars going. There are a lot of tips and tricks out there that can help you survive winter, but do they cover every bit of your car?

Most tips and tricks list talk about the big things that keep your car running, but not many of them talk about the less vital pieces. How often have you thought about your car’s wiper blades? You should definitely check on them and think about switching out to a set of winter wiper blades. It’s hard to push off all of that snow with weak wipers.

Why You Need Winter Wiper Blades

Wiper blades are something you don’t really think about until you need them. There are summer and winter blades, obviously you will get a different performance out of both blades. Summer blades are more lightweight and thin. They primarily only worry about rain and cleaning bugs off of the windshield. These blades also have lattice arms which means there are pivot points in the framework that can get jammed up with ice in the winter.

Winter blades are built a bit more sturdily. They are designed to push snow and keep moving through the ice. The thicker frame also means it won’t get as iced over when compared to summer blades. The wiper part of the blade is also made of a larger, synthetic rubber that helps it stay flexible as the temperatures drop.
